Best Time to Post on Social Media: Every Platform Compared (2026)

By PostMax Team · Updated · 7 min read

Quick answer

The best time to post on social media is Tuesday to Thursday, in the afternoon, in your audience’s local time. If you post to every platform at once, Tuesday or Wednesday between 2 and 5 p.m. falls inside the best window for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and TikTok in Sprout Social’s 2026 data. YouTube is the exception: Buffer found long videos do best on Sunday at 10 a.m.

One time that works when you post everywhere

If you post the same update to every platform at once, you need one time that works for all of them. In Sprout Social’s data, the windows overlap on Tuesday and Wednesday, 2–5 p.m.:

TikTok: best time to post today

TikTok has the most detailed data, so we built a tool for it. It shows today’s best times in your audience’s time zone and converts them to your clock. Each platform’s own guide (linked in the table above) has the same tool for that platform.

Weekends and the worst day to post

Sprout Social found Sunday is the worst day across platforms, with the lowest engagement, and it marks weekends as weak for every network it covers.

Buffer disagrees for two platforms. On TikTok, Saturday was its best day and Sunday at 9 a.m. its best single slot. On YouTube, long videos did best on Sunday at 10 a.m. If you post on weekends, those are the places to do it.

Why studies disagree

  • Different accounts. Sprout Social’s customers are mostly businesses and larger brands. Buffer’s include more creators and small businesses.
  • Different scores. Sprout Social counts total engagements. Buffer uses the median engagement rate per post.
  • Your audience is not the average. Nurses, students and office workers are online at different hours.

Use the studies to pick your first times, then let your own numbers take over.

Give each new time two weeks before you judge it, and compare posts of the same type. One viral post can make any time look great.

Schedule posts for every time zone

The best times rarely fit your day, especially when your clients’ audiences live in other countries. With a scheduler you write the post when it suits you and it goes out at the right time where the audience is.

In PostMax you write once, pick the platforms, and choose the exact minute. It posts to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads and Bluesky on time, even when your laptop is off.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to post on social media?

Weekday afternoons are the safest choice. In Sprout Social’s 2026 study of nearly 2 billion engagements, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and TikTok all have strong windows on Tuesday and Wednesday between 2 and 5 p.m. local time. Buffer’s data favors mornings around 9 a.m. for several platforms, so test both.

What is the best day to post on social media?

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sprout Social and Buffer both rank midweek days highly for most platforms. TikTok and YouTube are the exceptions in Buffer’s data, where weekends do well.

What is the worst day to post on social media?

Sunday, according to Sprout Social, which found it had the lowest engagement across platforms. Buffer’s data disagrees for TikTok and long YouTube videos, where Sunday mornings perform well.

Should I post at the same time on every platform?

You can. If you post everywhere at once, Tuesday or Wednesday between 2 and 5 p.m. in your audience’s time zone falls inside the best window for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and TikTok in Sprout Social’s data. Fine-tune each platform later with your own analytics.

Do these times use my time zone?

They use your audience’s local time. If your followers are in another country, convert the times to your own clock, or schedule posts so they go out at the right time there.
