How to Post to All Social Media at Once (Free and Paid Ways)

By PostMax Team · Updated · 9 min read

Quick answer

No social app posts to every other app for you. You have three ways to do it:

  1. Meta’s built-in sharing is free, but it only reaches Facebook and Instagram (and Threads, from the Instagram app).
  2. A free scheduler plan reaches more platforms, but limits you to about 1 to 3 channels.
  3. A cross-posting tool like PostMax reaches all of them. Connect your accounts once, write one post, change the words where a platform needs it, and post everywhere in one click or at a time you pick.

Posting one update to Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Facebook, Threads and Bluesky by hand means 8 apps, 8 logins and 8 rounds of copy and paste. Do that for a few clients and it’s most of your day.

This guide shows every way to post to all your social media at once, what each one really costs, and the small changes that make one post work on every platform. Plan prices and limits were checked on each company’s site in November 2026.

The 3 ways to post to all social media at once

Pick the one that matches how many platforms and accounts you post to.

1. Meta’s built-in sharing (free, Meta apps only)

If your brand only lives on Facebook and Instagram, you don’t need another tool. Meta Business Suite posts to both from one screen, and it’s free.

  1. 1

    Open Meta Business Suite

Go to business.facebook.com, or open the Meta Business Suite app, and sign in.

  2. 2

    Create a post

Click Create post. Under “Post to”, select your Facebook Page and your Instagram account.

  3. 3

    Write once, then adjust

Add your caption and photos or video. You can change the text for Instagram or Facebook on its own if you want.

  4. 4

    Preview and publish

Check the preview for each app, then publish now or schedule it for later.

The Instagram app can also do it: on the last screen before you share a post, turn on Also share on to send it to your Facebook Page, and to Threads where your account offers it.

2. A free scheduler plan (a few channels)

Most schedulers have a free plan or a free trial. Free plans work if you post for one brand on two or three platforms. Here’s what the main ones give you:

Checked November 2026. Plans change, so confirm on each site.
ToolFree planPaid plans start at
Buffer3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 1 user$5 a month per channel (yearly)
Metricool1 brand, 20 posts a month, no LinkedIn or X$20 a month (yearly) or $25 monthly
HootsuiteNo free plan, 14-day trial$99 a month per user (yearly), 10 accounts
PostMaxNo free plan, 5-day trial with no card$9.99 a month, every platform and client

Each platform also has its own free scheduler: YouTube Studio, TikTok on the web, LinkedIn’s post scheduler and Meta Business Suite. They work, but only for their own platform, so you still open each one.

The free combo, and where it breaks

A common free setup is Buffer for 3 channels plus each platform’s own scheduler for the rest (see our comparison of free social media schedulers). That’s fine for one brand. It breaks when you add clients: 3 clients on 5 platforms is 15 channels, far past any free plan, and you’re back to switching between apps.

3. One tool for every platform (step by step)

A cross-posting tool connects all your accounts in one place, so one post goes to every platform. Here’s how it works in PostMax, which posts to X, LinkedIn, Facebook Pages, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Threads and Bluesky.

  1. 1

Make a profile for each brand or client

Each profile holds only that client’s accounts, so you pick the client first and their posts go to their pages.

  2. 2

    Connect the accounts

Link each platform once. For most platforms you sign in on the platform’s own page, so PostMax never sees the password.

  3. 3

    Write the post once

Add your words, photos or video, and pick the platforms it should go to.

  4. 4

    Change what each platform needs

Write a shorter caption for X or Bluesky, add a YouTube title and description, or add a cover photo for YouTube and Instagram Reels.

  5. 5

Post now or pick the exact minute

Scheduled posts go out on time even when your laptop is off. You can edit a scheduled post until a minute before it goes out.

  6. 6

    Watch each platform go live

Each platform shows when it’s done, with a link to the live post you can send to your client. If one platform has a problem, the others still post.

To be clear about what PostMax doesn’t do: it has no analytics, approval steps or team seats. It’s built for one person posting for many brands. If your agency needs approval chains, a team tool like Hootsuite or Sprout Social fits better.

What to change for each platform before you post

One post can go everywhere, but each platform has its own rules. The most common problem is a caption that’s too long, so start there. Paste yours below.

Caption length checker

Paste your caption to see which platforms take it as it is.

  • X123 / 280, fits
  • Bluesky123 / 300, fits
  • Threads123 / 500, fits
  • Instagram123 / 2,200, fits
  • TikTok123 / 2,200, fits
  • LinkedIn123 / 3,000, fits
  • YouTube123 / 5,000, fits
  • Facebook123 / 63,206, fits

This caption fits every platform.

YouTube's number is for the description. X counts each link as 23 characters.

Caption limits

PlatformCaption limitGood to know
X280 charactersEvery link counts as 23. Longer posts need X Premium.
Bluesky300 charactersThe shortest limit, so write this version first.
Threads500 charactersShort and chatty works best.
Instagram2,200 charactersLinks in captions aren’t clickable. Say “link in bio”.
TikTok2,200 charactersLinks in captions aren’t clickable.
LinkedIn3,000 charactersOnly the first lines show before “more”, so lead with the point.
YouTube100 for the title, 5,000 for the descriptionNeeds a title. The description is searchable, so use real words.
Facebook63,206 charactersRoom for anything. Shorter still reads better.

Photo and video rules

Some platforms won’t take a post without the right media. These are the limits for posts sent through scheduling tools:

PlatformNeeds media?Longest video
XNo2 min 20 s (longer with X Premium)
BlueskyNo3 minutes
ThreadsNo5 minutes
TikTokYes, a video (photo posts in some tools)10 minutes
InstagramYes, at least one photo or video15 minutes
YouTubeYes, a video15 minutes (longer with a verified channel)
LinkedInNo30 minutes
FacebookNoLong videos are fine

Should you post the exact same thing everywhere?

Post the same idea everywhere. Change the words when a platform needs it. People follow you on several apps for different reasons, and a little tailoring goes a long way:

  • X, Threads and Bluesky: short and conversational. Cut the caption to its main point.
  • LinkedIn: a bit longer and more useful. Put the key line first, since the rest hides behind “more”.
  • Instagram and TikTok: the video or photo does the work. Keep the caption short, add a few relevant hashtags, and point to the link in your bio.
  • YouTube: write a clear title people would search for, and a description with the key words.

Always upload the original video file. Instagram has said it shows Reels with another app’s watermark, like TikTok’s, to fewer people. A tool that posts the same file to every platform avoids this.

Checklist before you post everywhere

  • Is the caption short enough for X (280) and Bluesky (300)?
  • Do Instagram, TikTok and YouTube have a photo or video?
  • Does YouTube have a title, and do YouTube and Reels have a cover?
  • Is the video vertical 9:16 and short enough for every platform?
  • Are links only where they’re clickable (not in Instagram or TikTok captions)?
  • Is this the right client’s profile?
  • Is the time right for your audience’s time zone?

Posting for several clients?

Cross-posting gets harder with every client. You have more accounts, more logins, and more chances to post on the wrong page. Two things matter most:

  • Separate profiles. Each client should have their own space with only their accounts in it, so you choose the client first and can’t mix them up.
  • A price that doesn’t grow with clients. Many tools charge per channel or per user. At Buffer’s $5 per channel (billed yearly), 4 clients on 5 platforms is 20 channels, or about $100 a month before its volume discount. PostMax is $9.99 a month for unlimited clients and accounts.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free app to post to all social media at once?

Not for every platform. Meta Business Suite is free but only covers Facebook and Instagram. Free scheduler plans cover more platforms but cap you: Buffer’s free plan allows 3 channels, and Metricool’s free plan allows 1 brand and 20 posts a month without LinkedIn or X. To post to all of them from one place you need a paid tool. PostMax costs $9.99 a month after a 5-day free trial.

Can I post to Facebook and Instagram at the same time for free?

Yes. In Meta Business Suite, create a post, select both your Facebook Page and your Instagram account, then publish or schedule it. The Instagram app can also share a new post to Facebook with its “Also share on” option.

Can I post to Instagram and TikTok at the same time?

Not from either app, because Instagram and TikTok don’t share to each other. A cross-posting tool can send the same video to both at once. Upload the original file, not a video saved from TikTok, so it has no TikTok watermark.

Does cross-posting hurt my reach?

Posting the same idea everywhere is fine. What hurts is posting it badly: a caption cut off on X, a dead link in an Instagram caption, or a Reel with another app’s watermark, which Instagram has said it shows to fewer people. Change the caption where a platform needs it and use the clean video file.

What video size works on every platform?

A vertical 9:16 video at 1080 × 1920 pixels works for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads and Bluesky. Keep it under 2 minutes 20 seconds for X (unless you have X Premium) and under 100 MB for Bluesky.

Can I schedule a post to every platform for later?

Yes, with a scheduler. In PostMax you write the post, pick a date and the exact minute, and it goes out on every platform you chose at that time, even when your laptop is off. You can edit it until a minute before it posts.
